Importing memos from Palm Desktop Software - Windows
If you use the Palm Desktop software on Windows you can export your existing memos as a comma separated (CSV) file. That file can then be uploaded to Google Docs and wirelessly imported into Memos. The categories you used in the Palm Desktop software will become Groups after being imported into Memos.
1) Export memos from your Palm Desktop software.
a) Open your Palm Desktop software and click the Memo icon (or, depending on your version, the Memos icon). In the Category pull down menu, select All.
b) Select Export... from the File menu.
c) The Export As dialog box will open. Select Comma Separated (*.csv; *.txt) in the Export type: pull down menu. Unless you want to export only specific memos from the displayed list, make sure that the All radio button is selected in the Range: section. Give your export file a name, select a directory to save it in and click the Export button. A dialog box titled Specify Export Fields will open. Verify that all three items in this dialog are checked and that they are listed in order from top to bottom as: Memo, Private & Category. Click OK.
2) Upload export file to Google Docs.
a) Login to Google Docs. If you do not have a Google Docs account, they are free. You can find more information and signup at Google.com.
b) Click the Upload button on the toolbar.
c) In the Upload a File section, click the Choose File button. Navigate to your Palm Desktop export files and select one, clicking Choose or OK.
d) Click the Upload File button.
e) Google Docs will upload your export file and open it as a spreadsheet. Wait until your browser has fully refreshed before continuing. This may take a little while for larger files.
f) If Google Docs pops an error stating "The uploaded file was too large to import.", you will need to return to Step 1 and export each of your categories as a separate file in order to get smaller file sizes. At the end of Step 1a, instead of selecting All from the Category pull down menu, instead select an individual category name. Repeat all of Step 1 for each of your categories, including Unfiled, saving each to a different file.
g) In the Google Docs Spreadsheet menu, click File then Save & close. This will return you to your main Google Docs page. If you have multiple export files, repeat items b - e of Step 2 for each one.
3) Import into Memos.
a) In Memos, tap the Tools toolbar button at the bottom of the Memos list, then tap Import CSV File.
b) Tap the
CSV file item and select your export file from the list.
c) If you don't want these new memos imported into the top level of your list, tap the group item and select a group under which to create the new groups which will be created from the imported memos' categories. There's an add button in the top right hand corner if you'd like to create a new group for this purpose.
d) Tap the blue Import button to perform the import operation. If successful, you will see a column of green check marks in the status table.
e) If you have multiple files to import, you can tap CSV file again and select the next export file from the list, then press Import again.
